Goth Add Me
Greetings, I just joined the community. I'm Andrea, and I am twenty years old I am a university student, and I live in Chicago. Most of my friends on livejournal are in fact my friends from real life, and so I would be interested in having some friends of a more gothy persausion.|
I myself am mostly interested in Victorian gothic, velvet, lace, satin, and so forth, although you certainly don't have to be interested in all of those things for me to add you. I am very interested in classical languages and classical literature, and I read quite a lot when I have free time. Although I don't have a lot of free time, I tend to be rather active on this website in spite of it.
Feel free to ask me any questions or add me. I'll certainly add you back.
I shall add you as well. I'm glad it worked out. Yes, it's rather unfortunate that the community isn't more active, but that appears to be changing.
Certainly not. (I actually just barely read it in gothroyalty and thought that you were quite interesting.) I'm actually only a memeber of heirs2thethrone, as I am so young, but I do read gothroyalty as well at times. Are you very familiar with Chicago? I have only lived here for a year and a bit, and I am not really familiar with the scene at all. It seems a bit disappointing at the moment.
Yes. I am VERY familiar with Chicago. Why, need directions? ;)
I lived there for the first 29 years of my life.
I am sure things have changed some.
I hear that they definitely have from folks who are still there.
I hear that if I wanted to go back home, I could not afford to buy a shack with three walls over there I'm told.
Yuppies from CA and other places are moving in and real estate prices have skyrocketed. The old ethnic neighborhoods (like where I grew up around Harlem and Foster) are now swanky townhouses or something few can afford.
The projects that were around Larabee and the Robert Taylor Homes are no more, Wicker Park is now "Trendyville", Chicago and Ashland has become "Yuppiville" as well, I hear. (I lived on Fry St. for a while)
Just a lot of changes. I do notice that places I used to play in bands with are still around though. In fact, they're probably bigger now than they were back then.
Ugh. You saw that mess on GothRoyalty, huh. Nasty. *Tch*!
THAT was one bad idea. Yep. Leave it to lil ol me to just show my arse.
Such is life.
Yes, I have also heard that Chicago is safer now, but I don't quite believe it. The rent for apartment is really ridiculous, I'm lucky enough to be a student, so the cost of housing isn't quite as bad, or rather doesn't seem that way just yet. Wicker Park really is trendyville, or rather home to all of the hipster college kids. Where did your bands play?
I suspect that you would have a good chance at gothroyalty if you reapplied, although I find that it is a fairly nice community to read. They're especially good at putting links to lovely clothing. Also, the velvet dress you made is absolutely lovely. I really need to find the time to make my own clothing.
Where did your bands play?
Batteries Not Included, Double Door, Neo (one of the first bands to play there back then), ...oh my brain is not working tonight, dang it... this other place I forgot the name of, Czar Bar something, this place over on Grand Avenue that used to be called Smiler's, etc.
A bunch of places in the surrounding states. Too many to name right now, I'm afraid. (Yeah, I toured a coupla times. Yaaarg!)
I am supposed to go back to Chicago sometime fairly soon because I have to see my aunts. (Zias) They are in their 80's now and the family would get pissed off if I did not get my ass over there soon. They're ticked that I keep saying that I'll go over there and then don't have money for the air fare. When I DO go, I stay at my old room-mate's home in Berwyn. She is so cool. Last time, 'bout 6 years ago ....she let me have my "Desert/Tea Parties" ( .... more like gothdrama/gossip party where everyone was mostly talktalktalkingyakking into the night. Hey, dat's cool with me!) over there at the big house her and her family live in.
Anyway, I had a bunch of friends over by there and we all had a great time. People brought a dessert and some kind of herbal teas and stuff, someone brought his DJ set up and stuff. Nice, eh? My old roommate (Irene) said she found people's outfits fascinating. She sez to me, she sez.... "So! There ARE more of you, eh! What the hell were ya doin' all these years, girl? Keepin' 'em in a closet? What the fuck's that white shit on that dude's face?!" I'm like.... "Yo, keep yer voice down, eh?" Irene laughed and said that I was always "a piecea work". Heh. Funny. I am hoping I can do that again some day soon.
I have all my old furniture up in an attic apartment there. She kept it all after I took off for Atlanta with my husband. He did not like Chicago AT ALL. Too cold for him. He lasted a year there and one fine day.... he came in from digging out his truck from the snow and ice in the lot over there (where we lived in Rogers Park at the time) and loudly declared, "Aww HELL no! No mo' THIS shit!". (It was -10 degrees) So much for that. Peh. He couldn't hack it.
Gotta love it.
Hello and welcome. I’m sorry it’s taken me almost a month to respond to your post, as I’ve been dealing with problems in RL, but welcome nonetheless. Hopefully you will achieve your goal of discovering gothy friend through here.
