Once upon a time there was a little girl who dressed only in black. At some point, as these things happen, she began dreaming of her Prince Charming, but instead of a fair blond hunk, she found the sadistically intellectual likes of Pinhead, Hannibal Lecter, and Freddy Krueger more stimulating. The little girl in black spent hours upon hours watching every horror movie she could get her hands on, she was nursed into reading by Goosebumps and devoured anything with a vampire or demon on the cover. She learned the intriguing way in which things could be frightening, disgusting, and sexy at the same time. Then something changed, at least for the movies. Being a girl who could imagine at least ten ways she could die in a car crash before getting to work with dread, and yet equally looked at a likely bottle of pills with longing as a way to avoid all life's little problems, such as, say, filing taxes or cleaning the house, there began to shift to more of a fear of death rather than an enjoyment of watching blond teenagers get slashed to ribbons. The boogeyman became frightening again.

This is a new journaling project from a vet writer, seeking to get back out of my comfort zone. I'll be updating weekly to several times per week with new reviews of movies, books, music, and anything else that might fit into the theme. Not everything might fit the strict horror gore genre, it could be anywhere from Sesame Street's the Count to dark fantasy erotica to snuff.

It's open to all, no questions asked, no commenting required, feel free to lurk away in your dark little corner of the world while we obsess together about blood and death and what draws us into that deep black night.
